Why go on a Heritage Trail?

Q: What elements of National Education is one able to learn on a Heritage Trail?

The students will learn where we come from, where we are now, and where we are going through visits to various sites around Singapore and explanations from the facilitator.

Q: How do I select which programmes are suitable?

What is the objective you wish to achieve during this school trip? Do you want to reinforce what was taught in the school syllabus? Or cultivate an understanding of the different cultures sharing Singapore's heritage? Or perhaps, just for some good ol' fun! Whichever the case, tell us your objective, and we will recommend a programme for you!

Q: How long will the programmes be?

Most of our programmes are between 2½ - 5 hours long. Our longer Premium Programmes enable students that go on our tour to have a in-depth understanding of the issues brought up. However, if your schedule is tighter, we also have shorter tours that are more focused on specific heritage sites. Our workshops are usually spread over 2 days - a lecture on the first day, followed by a field trip the next day.

Q: How do I book a programme?

Once you have decided on the date and time for the tour, you can give a call to Ms Jeya or Joyce at 6221 3804. They will send you a booking form if the date you have requested for is available. Our peak periods get filled up way in advance! Remember to book early!

Q: Can a whole level of students go on a programme on the same day?

Due to site constraints, we are only able to take a maximum of 80 students per tour at every set-off time. However, if you would like more students to go on a particular tour, we can stagger the set-off times from the school so the sites they visit will not be too congested and remain conducive for learning. For Merdeka Trail and Battlefield Study Tour, we are able to take a maximum of 160 students are each set-off time.

Q: Can I pick and select portions of different tours?

We are able to customise a tour itinerary of your choice. Just tell us which segments of which tour you prefer, and we will recommend a programme which will not compromise the overall comprehensiveness of the programme.

Q: What will I be getting for the price I am paying?

In our fervent belief in providing the best quality tours, we deliver a talk utilising audio-visual aids before each tour. This is to ensure the tour participants will have a good introduction to the subject prior to embarking on a tour.

Our programmes have been painstakingly researched for accuracy and designed to provide entertainment with education. We have Chinese Opera Wayang performances, Silat demonstrations, cultural exhibitions and memorial ceremonies, all lined up to give you and your students a unique tour experience.

All our facilitators have gone through intensive training, not just to be engaging storytellers, but to encourage the students to investigate, discover and analyse.

Lastly, the group size is kept small (Usually 25 students : 1 guide) so as to optimise the learning environment.

The tour cost will include a coach, that will pick the students up, bring them around, and take them back to school in air-conditioned comfort. It will also cover the hiring of facilitators, any applicable entrance charges, as well as activity booklets or worksheets. Souvenirs will be given on some of our tours. Two teachers can accompany a class of 40 students for free!

Q: What if it is out of my budget?

We also have tours that are shorter, with one facilitator for every bus, with lower fees but still retain the quality that Singapore History Consultants is well known for!

Q: How do I pay by Edusave?

First, you have to confirm with us the total number of students coming on our tours at least two weeks before the date of the tour. This will allow us to make the necessary logistical arrangements. The students would then have to sign their Edusave forms and return the forms to you one week before the tour, and not after. You can give the forms to your School Administrator to process after you have collected them, and they will make the necessary arrangements for payment. In the event that students do not turn up on the tour, we apologise that we are unable to make concessions unless valid reasons such as an MC is provided.

Q: What if my students get hungry during the tour?

Some of our trails provide snacks as part of the tour experience, but meals are not provided as part of the tour unless requested. We are able to provide McDonald's packed lunches which include a burger, an apple pie, and a Coke drink for $5 per head. Vegetarian sets can be arranged. We suggest a break for students to have lunch before they embark on a tour as a hungry stomach is likely to disrupt their concentration. If there is insufficient time for them to take lunch, it is advisable for the students to purchase snacks to take on the trail.

Q: What if it rains during the tour?

Students should be informed to take along a poncho/raincoat or umbrella on the tour. However if the weather conditions does not permit the tour to continue in an acceptable manner, we will postpone the remainder of the tour at no extra cost.

Q: What happens after I have booked and confirmed the tour?

A talk will be held at either your school or at the museum. If the talk is held at your school, please confirm the location of the talk and the availability of the equipment needed with us. Here are some important points to note and pass on to the students if they are going on the:

MALAY CIVILISATION / KAMPONG GLAM TRAILS
All students need to wear long pants and shirts with sleeves because they will be going into a mosque.

CIVIC DISTRICT / INTO THE PARLIAMENT HOUSE
All students need to bring their identity card or passport along with them. They also need to wear collared shirts and covered shoes.
